Alfie was the start of it all!
I count myself very lucky to have chosen such a beautiful cat, both in looks and personality.
The idea was to complete (!) my cat family, with my favourite breed, the Maine Coon. Background, quality, even colour was unimportant. I knew I would know the right cat when I saw him. All I was certain of was that I wanted a male, and I visited Alfie just a day after I first began to contact breeders.
At 5½ weeks I thought he was the best and I haven't changed my opinion since. He is the most loveable scruffbag and I wouldn't swap him for any Best In Show. The nearest Alfie has come to the show-bench is at photo-shows, where he does very well, but he is too much of a scaredy-cat to enjoy life in the spotlight, not to mention being bath-shy! The sound of the doorbell sends him rushing to hide under the duvet, and he is very wary of strangers, but always remembers people he has met before.
Alfie does have an illustrious background, being sired by US Import Grand Champion Coonquest Oscar of Beardwood and it was lovely to discover that he is related to Tanis, my foundation queen, his grandfather being her great-grandfather. The duties of a kindly Uncle were a bit much when Tanis was tiny, and prone to use him as a climbing frame, but are more bearable now she is becoming more lady-like. |
